An officer stopped Charles R. Zillmer of Brookfield at approximately 6 p.m. Dec. 30, for erratic driving on Highway M, the police report said. While eastbound, Zillmer's Cadillac Deville allegedly twice crossed into the westbound lanes, forcing westbound traffic to veer out of the way.
Zillmer stopped in the parking lot of the Red Rooster Inn, N14 W22032 Watertown Road, but at first would not get out of the car when instructed to do so by police, the report said.
Based on the smell of alcohol and the result of field sobriety tests, Zillmer was arrested for drunken driving.
While police were performing a pat-down search, officers discovered bunches of partially folded U.S. currency in his pants, shirt and jacket pockets, totaling $3,727, the report said. There was also a Western Union money order for $299.
In Zillmer's car, police found numerous unopened bottles of alcoholic beverages and numerous items for gambling, the report said.
Gaming items included a large Ziplock bag of dice, dice cups, four decks of playing cards, six Green Bay Packers game pool cards marked $5 per square, eight boxes of $1 pull-tab lottery tickets, fantasy football brochures and 43 Victory Lane NASCAR gambling boards.
When questioned about the items in his car, Zillmer stated he had been in the tavern supply business for approximately five years and the playing cards and lottery tickets were part of that, the report said.
On Dec. 31, police executed a search warrant, obtained with information gathered during the drunken driving arrest, at Zillmer's Brookfield home, the report said.
Police seized $20,000, a laptop and a box of internal computer parts and other gaming paraphernalia.
